Experimental study of square and rectangular hollow section aluminium alloy columns

Abstract Recently, aluminium alloys are extensively used in the construction sector because of their small self-weight, good corrosion resistance, low maintenance, high recyclability, and aesthetic appearance. However, one main disadvantages these is Young’s modulus, which may cause a stability issue structural members. Moreover, currently available design standards for predicting buckling resistance columns generally conservative. Therefore, additional research required to evaluate actual behaviour under axial compression. The present study experimentally investigated response 13 square rectangular 6082-T6 alloy subjected properties were achieved from tensile test coupon samples. compressive load was employed concentrically by using knife-edge hinge ensure pin supports on both ends specimens. observed tests presented terms ultimate strengths, failure modes load-mid-height lateral displacement relationship. Furthermore, results specimens compared with strengths calculated Eurocode 9, showing that latter provides conservative scattered estimations.
